Olympiacos head coach José Luis Mendilibar highlighted his team’s missed opportunities following the 1-1 draw against Asteras Tripolis at “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium.
In detail, the coach’s comments from the press conference:
After a series of matches where Olympiacos secured late victories, this time they had to settle for a draw in a match where they created many chances. What do you think prevented your team from winning?
It’s true that aside from the match against Panathinaikos, Asteras was the last team to take points from us. We conceded an early goal but managed to equalize quickly, which doesn’t always happen. What we lacked was precision and clinical finishing. Especially toward the end, the game was completely under our control – our opponent had only one chance, which went wide. We pressed, we created, but we weren’t accurate enough. Based on the chances we had, winning this match would have been the fair outcome.
As you mentioned, Olympiacos creates plenty of chances but struggles to score easily. How can this be fixed?
Indeed, we are a team that generates a lot of opportunities. This time, we also had several good moments from set pieces –more than in previous matches– but we were unable to score. The positive thing is that we don’t concede easily. However, in attack, we need to put in even more work in training and improve our finishing.
