Olympiacos coach José Luis Mendilibar spoke about Roman Yaremchuk’s excellent goal during the press conference after the Greek Cup match against Panathinaikos.
Here is a detailed account of the Basque coach’s press conference:
A comment on the game, where you made several changes, and Yaremchuk’s goal:
We indeed made several changes—seven, if I’m not mistaken. The game was very close right up until the last minute. The goal we scored was a brilliant effort by Roman. It was a fantastic, beautiful goal, set up by an exceptional pass from Rodinei.
With the demanding schedule ahead, do you have a second lineup plan to stabilize your rotation?
Indeed, we have many games ahead. However, no matter who plays or how many changes are made, whether someone starts or comes off the bench, the team’s playing style will not change. We don’t want to alter it. We want it to stay the same and that is what we work on every day. Whoever wants to play must adapt to this style. We are not looking to change our philosophy. We have many games coming up. After a long break, we now face matches with little time for preparation. That is why everyone must be ready to meet the demands.
Once again, we saw El Kaabi, Kostoulas, and Yaremchuk in the same lineup after the subs made during the match. Does this reflect a desire for extra attacking intensity?
We want to win games, so our aim was to become more aggressive and create more danger. By playing Yaremchuk and El Kaabi in central attacking roles and moving Kostoulas to the flanks, we sought to increase our chances. Nobody can guarantee that having more attackers on the pitch will ensure victory. However, this approach at least helped us equalize in this match.
