At the age of 10, he joined the academy of Porto, where he made his debut for the first team at the age of 17. In the summer of 2010, he was loaned to Beira-Mar, and during the 2011-2012 season, he played for KV Mechelen and Penafiel. After returning to Porto, he played for Paços Ferreira during the 2013-2015 period.
His excellent performances (65 appearances, six goals) led Porto to reacquire him. In January 2017, he was loaned to Nantes and in January 2019 to PAOK until the end of the season. In January 2022, he signed with Roma, where he made 22 appearances and won the UEFA Europa Conference League during the second half of that season.
