A great qualification for the Youth of Olympiacos against Bayern Munich, as they won 1–3 in Germany, in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League and qualified for the Final Four of the competition to be held between the 19th and 22nd of April in Nyon, Switzerland.
Once again, the “red-and-white” youngsters demonstrated that the future belongs to them and, following their qualifications against Lecce, Kampala, Inter, Lens, and now Bayern Munich, they will attend the final phase of the European competition, something that no Greek team has ever achieved so far.
Early-on prevalence
From the very first minutes of the game, Olympiacos proved their offensive purpose and created the first good moment as early on as 2 minutes into the game, with the goalkeeper pushing the ball away with his fingertips in a shot by Pnevmonidis. Bayern got a great opportunity in the 28’, with Jensen’s shot barely missing the net.
From that moment onwards, Olympiacos was dominant during the first half. In the 32’, the goalkeeper of the Bavarian team made a false kick under pressure, and Mouzakitis opened the score in an empty goal to from the 0–1.
They were under pressure, but held on
The second half started with Olympiacos pushing the opponent, but the hosts did not take long to take action on the pitch, and it was only expected that Bayern Munich would go on the offensive at home.
In the 63’, Zvonarek attempted a long shot, Sina kicked out, but Ramsak reduced the score for Bayern to 1–3.
A minute later, the Bavarians created a great opportunity, as Zvonarek’s header broke off on Sina’s beam.
Τhe team from Munich started pushing, however, the defence of Olympiacos worked effectively. In fact, the “red-and-whites” ended up creating a good moment, with Ch. Kostoulas passing the ball through the area with a side-foot kick, but he missed by a little.
Thus, the 1–3 remained and the Youth of Olympiacos won the historic qualification!
