Olympiacos FC and its President, Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, continue to support the work of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, actively contributing to its mission and its significant offerings to society.
On the Friday morning (22/12), Vasilis Vassiliadis, President and CEO of “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium, Giannis Moralis, Mayor of Piraeus and First Vice President of Olympiacos FC, Yiannis Maniatis, Director of Olympiacos’ second team, and Nikos Gavalas, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, visited the Church of Saint Nicholas in the center of Piraeus.
At the initiative of Mr. Marinakis, Olympiacos FC distributed 5,000 “meals of love,” demonstrating that, beyond their sporting role, the team is always present to meet the needs of the community.
His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus expressed his gratitude to Mr. Marinakis, stating: “Today is a celebration of love and cooperation. Under the protection and leadership of our Mayor, Giannis Moralis, and the beloved President of “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium, Mr. Vasilis Vassiliadis, and with the care, support, and strength of Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, the Church’s message becomes a reality – a message of love, compassion, and care. Parcels of kindness, moral support, and spiritual and material assistance are being distributed to those who need them most during these days of joy and family unity. I wish to express my gratitude to President Evangelos Marinakis, Mayor Giannis Moralis, and the dear Vasilis Vassiliadis for their cooperation. We are united as one in addressing all the challenges brought on by the troubles of our times. Our guiding principle, like that of Olympiacos, is love without boundaries”.
Mr. Vasilis Vassiliadis stated: “We are here with the general manager of the second team and former Olympiacos player, Yiannis Maniatis. Mr. Evangelos Marinakis is always by the Bishop’s side in his vast charitable work. Olympiacos and Piraeus are under persecution from the government and the Prime Minister, resulting in the unjust closure of the “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium, causing enormous damage. The damage exceeded 500,000 euros in our last European match played behind closed doors, but we beat them 5–2, the government and Mitsotakis. Olympiacos will emerge victorious from these persecutions, and Piraeus even more so. Despite the damage, we stand by the Bishop, and Evangelos Marinakis will continue to contribute to his charitable work”.
Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, said: “As long as there is a need from people, the Metropolis, Olympiacos, and the Municipality, united, will be by their side. We are making a significant effort. The meals provided to the Metropolis are a daily routine in Piraeus. Olympiacos’ support is a daily routine. The Municipality’s efforts are a daily routine. This unity functions in Piraeus, delivers results, and we will always be there for every citizen of Piraeus”.
Nikos Gavalas noted: “Throughout the year, especially during these days, Olympiacos and our President, Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, actively support the remarkable work of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, reciprocating the love of the people to the biggest club in the country. It is a commitment from Mr. Marinakis to continue supporting the work of the church in the future”.
Yiannis Maniatis added: “As every year, this year too, Olympiacos and our President, Mr. Marinakis, in the spirit of the Christmas season, show their support for the Church of Saint Nicholas. Our President always supports the citizens of Greece wherever needed, throughout the year, not just during the holiday season.
