As it is the case each year, Olympiacos FC and President Mr. Evangelos Marinakis displayed their substantial support to the work of the Piraeus Holy Metropolitan Church. During the beautiful concert against poverty organized by the Metropolitan Church in the Piraeus Municipal Theatre, Tuesday 19/12, cheques by Olympiacos FC and its President Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, in this festive occasion, were given to financially support the Metropolitan Church of Piraeus and our fellow humans in need.
Said money cheques were delivered by the G. Karaiskakis Stadium President and CEO, Mr. Vassilis Vassiliadis, who said: “Mr. Evangelos Marinakis has incurred all expenses for the concert. He paid the wages of more than 400 deacons, meaning thousands of euros, and donated the new Metropolitan Church’s building behind the Holy Trinity Church, the “Marinakeion”; he also offered to the Municipality of Piraeus, as Olympiacos FC Vice President and Mayor of Piraeus Mr. Giannis Moralis is aware of, a total of 20,560 boxes with foodstuff of worth hundreds of thousands of euros. Of course, Mr. Evangelos Marinakis will remain next to you with all his powers to the benefit of the Church and our people. Mr. Evangelos Marinakis and Olympiacos, putting aside the persecution we currently suffer by the ruling regime, would like to wish all families to have a happy and blessed holiday period, filled with health, strength and happiness”.
Form his part, His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim thanked Mr. Evangelos Marinakis and Olympiacos FC for this great offering:
“On Friday, at 9am, in front of the majestic Church of St. Nicholas, we will give away some five thousand of meals of love. The big hand offering these meals belongs to Mr. Evangelos Marinakis and these cheques demonstrate his equally big heart, the heart of genuine man of Piraeus, a true member of Olympiacos. One thing I have to say is that should we have no such people, our life would have been miserable. I wish God will enable him and his family, his beautiful children and lovely wife, and all of you, his loyal associates; I also wish we will be able to watch our Olympiacos flying over and above trivial things, misery and the dark side of humans. This is so because Olympiacos stands for “fair play” and, as our Mayor Giannis Moralis said, this is the 100th anniversary of offering to sports and life. Merry and blessed Christmas”.
The event was also attended by the Olympiacos FC BoD member, and Alter Ego media General Director and CEO Mr. Giannis Vretzos, and the Olympiacos FC Vice President and Mayor of Piraeus, Mr. Giannis Moralis.
Metropolitan of Piraeus Seraphim gave to Messrs. Vassilis Vassiliadis and Giannis Vretzos an icon of the Birth of Jesus Christ and an icon of Piraeus patron Saint Spyridon, as a sign of respect and recognition for this new financial aid by Olympiacos FC and Mr. Evangelos Marinakis.
