Olympiacos FC announces the acquisition of 24-year-old left-back Francisco Gabriel Ortega. Born on March 19, 1999 in Santa Fe, Argentina, he joined the youth setup of Vélez Sarsfield in 2013.
He made his debut with the first team on 27 November 2017, in his team’s victorious 3–0 against Club Olimpo, with assists.
He completed the 2019–2020 season with 24 appearances, eight of which in Copa Sudamericana, with his team reaching the semi-final stage. In 2020–2021 he made 38 appearances (six at the Copa Libertadores), with one goal and six assists.
The 2021–2022 season was the busiest of his career, with 48 appearances, one goal, and three assists. He participated in twelve of the games for the Copa Libertadores, with his team reaching the semifinals.
Ortega played in 154 games with Vélez Sarsfield, with three goals and 14 assists. He has represented Argentina’s U20 and U23 national teams, as well as the one that participated in the Tokyo Olympics.
