Olympiacos FC announces signing 30-year-old striker Ayoub El Kaabi. Born in June 25, 1993 in Casablanca, he started his career in Racing de Casablanca, and during the 2016-2017 season, he was crowned the league’s top scorer with a total of 25 goals scored and thus played a pivotal role in the club’s top-flight promotion.
He moved to domestic club Berkane in summer 2017, for a tally of 28 caps, 16 goals and 3 assists in the 2017-2018 season. In July 2018, he was signed by Chinese outfit Hebei, for which he scored 9 goals and provided 2 assists in 28 matches played.
In July 2019, he went on loan to his home country club of Wydad, signing with them on a free transfer in October 2020; he played 57 matches and scored 35 goals, while also serving no less than 8 assists. He completed the 2020-2021 season a champion and the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.
In August 2021, he moved to Hatayspor and, in his first year, he netted 18 times in 32 fixtures. In the following season, up until February 2023, he managed to score 8 goals in 21 matches. It was in March 2023 when a deal was reached to sign with Qatar’s Al Sadd; in his spell there, he scored 6 goals in 13 matches.
As an international, El Kaabi has been capped 36 times with Marocco’s National Team and scored 20 goals. He featured in the 2018 World Cup and won the Africa Cup of Nations twice, in 2018 and 2020. In fact, it was in its 2018 edition that he was nominated the tournament’s MVP and top scorer (9 goals).
