The team of Olympiacos played their first friendly game on Spanish soil as part of their preparations in the middle of the season. The “red-and-whites” faced English team Huddersfield and won by 2–0.
Following the end of the friendly game, the coach of Olympiacos, Míchel, in a statement on Cosmote TV channel (official TV partner of Olympiacos) stressed:
“Our goal is for the team to evolve into more like what we have in mind and to bring out on the field what we want. So far, we haven’t had enough time to work on this because we’ve had continuous games, but now we have the opportunity to do so.
We won the friendly game, and that’s a good thing, because this is how one improves. I definitely saw positive features, which we have been working on during practice, and I’m glad to see that we put out on the field the elements we’re working on. I’m also happy because I see footballers who were injured and are now working with us.
Most important is to reduce the roster, in order to see footballers that we haven’t had the chance to so far. We also have players who are making good progress and the good news is that all footballers seem to be in good shape.”
Fortounis: “We are working hard”
On his part, the Greek midfielder of Olympiacos, Kostas Fortounis, commented the following:
“We are working hard and we want to bring to the field what the coach wants. Little by little, we are getting there; we have good players but we are trying to become a team and we pursue the victory in every game. We are training hard twice a day, we are working to improve our fitness, and during the friendly game we saw that we are quite “fresh.” All the guys are presenting their best selves to the coach.”
In regard to his personal goal, he said: “I want to be healthy and we are all continuing to work together.”
