Following our side’s fixture for MD2 of the Superleague, Olympiacos coach Carlos Corberan commented on his team’s lost chances.
In his first comment, the Spaniard pointed out: “The referee wouldn’t let the match get a better flow. We did what we had to do and what was up to us, namely to create chances to score. We lacked sharpness to convert them and had a goal been scored, then it would have been a completely different match. There are certain moments we have to review, because I believe they were determined unfairly to Olympiacos, namely the cases we set foot in their penalty area. So, back to what was up to us, we were creative and defended well, but we were not sharp enough to score goals.
We all know that Olympiacos is major club always playing to win Ο Ολυμπιακός and when we fail to do so, this hurts and it is considered a failure. However, I am confident that the pain we feel now will make us better in the future”.
When asked whether he would have changed something in his starting lineup and whether the players were tired following the Apollon Limassol tie, he replied: “No, I don’t think so because we analysed the match well and we knew our players’ state of fitness. In the second half, our side was better because of our better understanding of the match; we were more active and creative with not many players replaced after the break. Oleg was running all the time throughout the 90 minutes; so did El Arabi and he showed no sign of fatigue. What we lacked was being fast while with the ball which we did in the second half and that was due to the fact that we read the match more effectively”.
