The coach of Olympiacos, Carlos Corberan, spoke at the press conference held in Slovakia against Slovan Bratislava, following the team’s qualification for the Europa League Playoffs.
The press conference of the Spanish coach in detail:
Regarding the fact that the team retreated after scoring the goals, he stressed: “An emotional factor leads you to protect what you have achieved in order to defend yourself against the opponent’s offense. The team was mentally and spiritually strong, but they were unable to maintain what they had accomplished”.
When asked about the value of qualifying and if he feels older after this specific game, he replied: “I am very satisfied because my goal was for the team to fight and attend the group phase and I am content that we took the first step. I am fully aware that there’s a lot we need to improve and we need to work hard to achieve our goal”.
Finally, he was asked what improvements he saw in Olympiacos compared to the previous matches: “Our team was better organised until 70’ into the match when our energy started to drop. We were better organised until that stage. At the beginning of the match we chased every ball of theirs and we played a high line, which led us to chase the ball when we had to defend ourselves. I saw the team handling the ball more calmly, there was better performance in defence, but mistakes were made that need to be corrected. We also saw one of our players, who has not been useful up until now, earning his place on the court and helping the team”.
