In detail:
One could say it was a pity for Olympiacos to lose this match, but how do you explain that unacceptable mistakes are committed at top-flight matches? Moreover, what about the fact that, judging by the outcome, your subs after the 70’ minute failed to help, although we understand that your intention was to bring fresh legs in the squad at that moment?
“In the opening 10-15 minutes, we suffered Porto’s pressure. We had made plans to deal with this difficulty, but failed to deploy them the way we should, and this led to conceding a goal. After their goal, we reacted well, our side showed its colors, played with more energy, we created chances and we had on with Mathieu; we could have scored a goal and we had Porto play really deep in defense. After the break, we piled up a lot of pressure on them, exactly like the kind of Olympiacos style we are used to see. There were some signs of fatigue in 70’ as you said, in Randjelovic and Giorgos (Masouras), so we had to go on with substitutions, we added pressure and tried to earn tis one point. The evening leaves a sour taste, although we are satisfied with the way we handled the match. We aspired to leave the pitch with some points at hand. At this level, all mistakes come with a high price”.
Given the results so far in the group, things are getting clearer:
“Nothing will be finalized until the very last match day’ nothing has been determined already. I say nothing because Marseille had shown us that they go the balls to grab the points back.”
During the second half did Olympiacos find a way to add pressure and make things difficult for Porto. Was that the key for losing or winning that match?
“We had our chances, we could have brought the match to a draw at certain points. We made a poor start and we paid for that Then, it as our side putting pressure on Porto. We could have scored, but we lacked the effectiveness needed. We tried via the substitutions, we tried to earn some points, but in the end we suffered a second goal”.
