Today, Olympiacos FC a long-standing supporter of UNICEF’s immunization programme for children, and UNICEF, have announced the continuation of their partnership, for one more year, to help prevent child mortality from preventable diseases.
In this new phase of the partnership, Olympiacos FC will support a new UNICEF multi-year campaign to end preventable deaths of newborns and ensure that every child has the necessary nutrition and health care to grow and develop.
Today, over 2 million children do not survive their first month of life and many of those who do are not able to grow and develop due to a lack of nutrition and health care. Whilst great progress has been made in reducing under-five mortality by 49% globally, many of the most disadvantaged children have been left behind.
Thanks to the significant contribution from Olympiacos from 2013 – 2017, together with other supporters worldwide, hundreds of thousands of children have been saved through vaccinations, and thousands of health care workers have been trained.
“Four years ago, Olympiacos decided to join forces with UNICEF to help save children’s lives from preventable diseases such as measles, tetanus, tuberculosisand, polio”, said Verity Nicholas, UNICEF Head of Corporate Fundraising. “Together, we have achieved a lot and we continue the effort, despite the challenging economic environment, with even greater enthusiasm. We warmly thank Olympiacos and its fans for their committed support”.
“Together, Olympiacos and UNICEF, we have accomplished so much for children in need worldwide since partnering for the first time in 2013. By renewing today, for the second time, our effective partnership we are committed to achieving even more for the safety and well-being of children in Greece and abroad, in the years to come”, said Evangelos Marinakis, President of Olympiacos FC. “Olympiacos FC has always represented a set of ideas and values that not only promote noble sportsmanship and great sport successes, but also give momentous meaning to the notions of solidarity and team work. It is for this reason that we, the Olympiacos family, will continue to be close to those in need, and assist in UNICEF’s mission to brighten childrens’ futures”.
The President of UNICEF Greece Sofia Tzitzikou stressed: “We are very happy to renew our important cooperation with Olympiacos. Together we will continue to protect the rights of children in Greece and around the world. Olympiacos with its support boosts our programmes for children’s survival and health, both in our country and all over the world”.
