In the post-match press conference, Marco Silva said that the result against Bayern Munich was a fair defeat by a great opponent. He added that “what’s done is done” and that the team must now win the point it needs in the match against Arsenal in order to qualify to the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
-This was an expected defeat. Nevertheless, are you upset with anything?
“I first of all want to say that I believe this is a fair defeat. The best team on the pitch won; this team has an amazing campaign and this is why they win all their opponents. There are some things I didn’t like, but I will keep these for the players and will share them with them. I am mostly talking about the first two goals. We hadn’t planned this, but I will say no more because I will take care of this with my players. This is how football works, this is how this competition works, but there are some things that must be dealt with.”
-Did you maybe not like your team’s reaction following the red card shown to Bayern Munich’s player? Did you expect something more?
“I understand your question and the reason behind your concern. We had a good chance with Ideye after the red card, but we didn’t manage to score. We wanted to score a goal and if we had done it, we would have been more energetic in our play. We expected something more at that moment. We didn’t make it and this is something we will have to see.”
-It’s reasonable that Olympiacos focused on Bayern’s wings. But there was a gap in the centre; do you think that this distracted the players and set the course of the match?
“I will not only stand on the first two goals, but also the third and the fourth goal. I would have preferred that these goals were the result of our opponent’s abilities and not our errors. The second goal is our fault and the third goal is our responsibility. Our opponent’s quality is also a factor to be considered over the goals we conceded. We had prepared differently and had planned to block our opponent’s quality, but we didn’t make it and we had this result.”
-We want you to talk to us about the next match in the group. Taking into consideration Arsenal’s victory tonight, what is your view and what are your thoughts on the team’s future in the group?
“I will say that “what’s done is done”. We had the same luck as most teams playing in this stadium. We will keep thinking about our last match against Arsenal. We plan to fight for this point we need in order to qualify. We have the advantage of playing home where we have the support of our fans. We have enough time ahead of us to prepare this match and to play to win the one point we need in order to qualify.”
