It was 25 years ago when the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted, making thus a promise to all children of the world for a better future with equal rights. Currently, 193 have ratified the Convention, which establishes that all children are born with equal freedoms and rights and that everyone agrees to abide by the same principles.
In particular, the scope of rights that children everywhere have to enjoy is determined. It sets the basic conditions for children well-being at various stages of their development and constitutes the first global, legally binding code of children rights in history.
It has certainly helped millions of children across the world, but, unfortunately, many of them still need our help.
The objective of this year’s UN General Assembly of the Convention’s 25th anniversary is to find new ways to solve challenges that many children deal with in their local communities. This year, the UN and UNICEF have invited Olympiacos to attend those events on the Rights of the Child, aiming at actively involving our club in the debate on their progress across the world and building on their potential.
More specifically, our side’s Strategic Advisor to the Administration, Mr. Christian Karembeu, and Head of our partnership with UNICEF, Mr. Veroushka Georganti, will represent the club during the UN-UNESCO discussions.
