Our side had a 4-4-2 formation. Roberto was under the goalpost; in defense, Salino took on the right, Cholevas the left, whereas our captain Avraam was joined by returning Marcano in a center back position. Midfield-wise, Samaris and N’Dinga were our coach’s selections, with Olaitan and Campbell at the wings. At the top of our attack, Saviola and Sepovic were the starters, however Olaitan would often cut inside and support them.
Olympiacos managed to take an early lead thanks to a Samaris’ goal. The Greek midfielder fired home a right-footed free kick, a few meters off-center and to the left. Papadopoulos sprung to make the save, but ultimately failed to prevent what would be the match opener; so, 1-0 in 11’.
The lead was made double not very long after. Saviola originally started it by receiving the ball facing the goalmouth and feeding smoothly Campbell to the left. The Costarican crossed it to the far post only to connect with Sepovic, whose beautiful header landed deep in Papadopoulos’ net for the final 2-0 in 17’.
