OLYMPIACOS FC and its President Mr. Marinakis actively support every UNICEF-led action. So, our side’s captain, Giannis Maniatis, addressed today the Press during the Press Conference on the UNICEF-led TV Marathon against poverty and children malnutrition, attended also by some Administration officers.
Olympiacos partnership with UNICEF is ongoing and our club’s contribution in all efforts by this organization is considered a fact.
That was also stressed by Mr. Lambros Kanellopoulos, President of UNICEF Greek Committee, during his address: “This year, the partnership agreed with Olympiacos represents a top moment for our humanitarian work in Greece. In the coming 18 months, this partnership will generate 2m € for the vaccination needs of 50,000 children. This is a unique, individual, unprecedented synergy for our country. Worldwide, there is only Barcelona, together with Olympiacos, that features such a partnership of international acclaim. Our ambition is not just to fulfill this objective with Olympiacos, but also to raise awareness amongst Greeks, both men and women, since children is no number. This is an intervention of sensitization, information, awareness, highlighting great values such as peace, solidarity, love, reconciliation, co-existence, or fighting violence and racism away from Greek school rooms and society, shadowed nowadays by such phenomena. Let us give a way-out towards hope and optimism, compassion and love. Today, I call on you, on behalf of UNICEF, to be part of this effort and rest assured that this effort will not be in vain or futile; it will further enhance the steps we take and bring closer the goal we have set”.
Our player Giannis Maniatis, from his part, said the following: “I would like to thank UNICEF’s people for this invitation. OLYMPIACOS FC, as you already know, has concluded a very important agreement with UNICEF for vaccinating 50,000 children both in Greece and the rest of the world. By means of this initiative, as our President Mr. Marinakis has said, we want to underpin UNICEF’s work and send a message of optimism; a message saying that, beyond Greece being a country in crisis and hardships, there is also a country that caters for and supports those in need. This is a unique initiative for Greek standards and proves that Olympiacos is not the biggest Greek club just in sports terms, but a major European club from every aspect. Personally, I feel greatly honored to put on the historic red-and-whit jersey with the UNICEF logo on it and I pledge on behalf of the players to do everything in our power for this great common venture. It is very important that we all participate in Monday’s TV Marathon and to contribute whatever each one can to UNICEF’s sacred cause UNICEF. We, the football players of Olympiacos, will be there”.
Olympiacos will take part in the TV Marathon of Love that will be held on Monday, December 9 with the side’s players giving away balls and jerseys with their signatures on.
