Right after this year’s Champions League draw for Olympiacos, our club’s head coach told the Press the following:
“Firstly, we are happy to take part in the draw. It means that we are among Europe’s finest 32 clubs! This was not a super tough draw. No star-club of Europe features in our Group, however our opponents are going to be hard to beat.
We understand that Benfica seems to be the favorite to top the Group, despite that the group is a balanced one. We know Anderlecht quite well; we played a friendly match against it less than a month ago. We believe that we can rise up to the occasion against any opponent and this is what we will try to do. It will not be easy, but we have our share of chances and we will claim them.
No sooner was the draw over that my mind went straight to Levadiakos. We must not lose our head right now; there is a championship match ahead and we must stay focused on that. My mind also went to Champions League fixtures schedule, which is also significant.
It is not a matter of experience or preference. I reckon that Benfica is currently the best team, maybe the best in the Group and that there is no side in this Group which is not good. If any of these three teams takes qualification for granted, it will be greatly mistaken.
