For match-day 2 of OPAP-sponsored Super League campaign, Olympiacos played host to Atromitos, Sunday evening, at “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium.
Roberto was our goalkeeper. Salino (right) and freshly-signed, debutante Bong (left), with center-backs Siovas and Manolas took on the defense. In midfield, Maniatis, Samaris and Dominguez were selected, with first 2 covering for the Argentinean who had more of a free role. Campbell was fielded on the left, whereas Fetfatzidis was preferred over Weiss for the left; atop, instead of Saviola, Mitroglou started the match.
During the first half, Olympiacos had slight upper hand over its opponent; however no major scoring opportunity occurred. Throughout the first 45’, Atromitos had to take care more and more of its rears, and Olympiacos kept adding pressure.
The second half did not begin very promisingly for our side. In 48ʼ, Napoleoni fired strongly from inside the box giving Atromitos the lead. The Legend’s reply was swift! In 50ʼ, Fuster was fouled a bit to the right off-center. Dominguez, Mitroglou and Campbell took positions around the ball and played an excellent trick with Mitroglou receiving last to feed Fuster; the latter fired neatly to the back of the net leveling the match in cheers! Before the cheers for the equalizer were over, Olympiacos scored the second! Dominguez took on the corner kick in 53’ following a great, set-piece producing display by Bong. Saviola met the ball at the far post and converted it causing even more reverberating cheers both for the 2-1 lead and his first goal under our Legend’s flag! So, both Míchel substitutes did score within 3 minutes!
Olympiacos display was completely changed after the break and, despite the one goal deficit, the team managed both to overturn an adverse situation and produce some attractive football! Nothing changed until the final whistle, and our side recorded a 2-1 victory, putting it top of the table with 6 points after 2 wins in as many fixtures!
