The “1st Annual Match of Love” for the Hatzikyriakio Institution was but the beginning. Olympiacos continues daily its charitable activities. A group of players visited today, Monday, together with members of the administration two Churches in Nikaia and Piraeus and offered financial and other assistance to our fellow people in need. Our players Tassos Papazoglou, Kostas Manolas and Panagiotis Vlachodimos, accompanied by Olympiacos FC Press Officer Mr Kostas Karapapas and Karaiskakis SA CEO Mr Vasilis Vasiliadis originally went to the Holy Church of the Birth of Virgin Mary (“Panagitsa”) in Nikaia. Father Dimitrios of the Cathedral Church of Nikaia received them and they presented him with a cheque of financial assistance to the parish that helps everyone in need.
Then, all three players visited the Holy Church of Saint Spiridon at Piraeus port. Our “Red-and-whites” stars have been welcomed by Father Georgios Kalamaris from Evaggelistria, Father Vasilios Poppis from Saint Spiridon Church, Father Nikolaos Filis from Zoodohos Pigi Holy Church, Father Ioannis Giannisis from Saint Basilios Holy Church, Father Mavroudis from Eleftherios Kaminion Holy Church, whereas the visit was also attended by the Chancellor of Piraeus Holy Cathedral, Archimandrite Father Nifon Kapogiannis.
Olympiacos players and executives offered 30,000 portions of food for the parish common meals, and both received compliments by the priests for their most important initiative.
Father Kapogiannis wished Olympiacos players for health and strength, and then added: “Such contributions are very important for the people, who are in need not only today, but every day of the year. We are really glad that a club as big as Olympiacos is standing by our side and supports the work we daily try to accomplish, offering assistance to those in need as our Lord did. I wish you will always enjoy health and many successes, for which we will be glad too.”
Mr Karapapas, from his part, stressed: “We are happy to be able to be here and help our fellow men. This is one of the numerous charities scheduled for both near and far future. Soon, we will be in position to carry out these activities in a much more organised way, since Olympiacos Foundation will start operating with a view to flawlessly set up all our club charities both in Greece and abroad. Please know that we will always be close to you and support you in any way we can”.
