The season for OLYMPIACOS F.C. ended in the best possible way. The Champions and Cup holders held a beautiful ceremony at the “G. Karaiskakis” stadium, on Wednesday, which included a friendly match against Red Star Belgrade.
Tonight’s feast, which lasted for more than five hours, started with a match among the veterans of OLYMPIACOS, a game among the young kids of our Academies followed, and then the Championship trophy was awarded to the team in a spectacular manner. As an epilogue our players celebrated with the fans, all around the pitch!
At first, the veterans of OLYMPIACOS played a match, in white and striped “red and white” shirts. The “whites” won the game by 3-2 thanks to the goals that Gogic (2) and Tsiantakis scored. Stelios Giannakopoulos netted both goals for the “red and whites”.
Kids from our Academies then entered the pitch and competed for an hour. Right after that, it was time for the friendly against Red Star, which our team won by 2-1.
During the half time break, our President, Evangelos Marinakis, honoured the President of Red Star Belgrade, Vladan Lukic, as well as former OLYMPIACOS player, Christian Karembeu for his contribution to the club! Head coach Ernesto Valverde offered our President a shirt signed by all the players.
After the game against Red Star ended, the celebration started! The stadium’s electronic boards broadcasted our team’s goals in all three competitions, while the preparations for the awarding were taking place.
The lights went off and the atmosphere created was amazing, thanks to laser beams and special lighting.
Thirty nine young lads, just as many as our Championship titles, danced on the pitch a Greek traditional dance (“zeimbekiko”) under the sound of the song called “Rosa” by Dimitris Mitropanos, a true fan of OLYMPIACOS, who is no longer among us.
Right after that, Manolis Kontaros sang a traditional Cretan song (a “mantinada”), dedicated to OLYMPIACOS and to our President, Evangelos Marinakis!
The moment that everyone was waiting for, as a conclusion to this beautiful evening, arrived when our players were called for, one by one, on the pitch, stepped on the special platform and raised the trophy high in the sky, taking it right off the hands of Mr. Marinakis.
The sky was lit up by fireworks inside and outside the stadium, creating unique moments for everyone.
These beautiful images went on, as the families of the players of OLYMPIACOS joined them on the pitch to celebrate. Head coach Erensto Valverde made things all the more touching by waving the fans goodbye; the entire stadium cheered for him, as he left the pitch with an obvious emotion.
After having won 15 Doubles, 39 Championships and 25 Cups OLYMPIACOS F.C. has already set a new goal; none other than adding the 4th star on the team shirt!
