Olof Mellberg scored the winner on 81 minutes after a free kick taken by Pablo Orbaiz, thus giving Olympiacos a 1-0 lead into the return match in Crete.
The home team could have netted several goals but was unable to take advantage of the goalscoring opportunities that they created despite the fact that their opponents seemed to be playing almost entirely in and around their own box.
Wednesday’s victory is only the first step of the qualification to the competition’s final and the team have one more game to play against O.F.I. this time in Iraklion, Crete.
