The visitors had control of the game from the very beginning and easily managed to impose their pace, especially in the first half.
The second half of the game started with a delay of more than one hour due to clashes between the fans of Panathinaikos and the police. This resulted to the teams appearing numbed during the first couple of minutes but still Olympiacos were superior to their opponents, having good ball-circulation and being a menace several times.
On 51 minutes, Djamel Abdoun avoided two of his opponents and swerved the ball nicely past Pananthinaikos keeper, Karenizs, to the back of the net scoring the winner.
The game went on as Panathinaikos tried to put more pressure on the visitors who seemed far more dangerous than the home team. With the decision of the referee, the game was interrupted and permanently discontinued on 82 minutes.
