It is often said that in football the best team is not always the winning one and, in this case, the saying was unfortunately confirmed.
The reds had an amazing first half with a great performance, attempts against the bar, a goal on 15 minutes by Ivan Marcano and many goalscoring opportunities which, however, were left unexploited. This 1-0 lead was not enough to seal the qualification for the home team and neither was the fact that Balazs Megyeri saved a penalty on 77 minutes, as the visitors did not give up and scored twice in the last ten minutes of the game (Villagra on 81 and Devic on 87) earning themselves the participation in the competition’s quarterfinals.
A big “thank you” to the fans of Olympiacos who, even after the club had been eliminated, kept cheering and supporting the players, thus showing their appreciation for this year’s good campaign in Europe and in an attempt to give them strength for the remaining games in the domestic SuperLeague and the Cup.
