“This was our first match after five months. I believe that we played well. When you do not have played during five months it is really hard to face an opponent such as Marseille with a budget three times higher than our own and with five official games played already.
We could have achieved a draw, we could have won. We are happy. This was only the beginning, we are optimistic. Our goal is to win the championship and a decent campaign in Europe. As soon as we have played more games we will perform better. The players of Olympiacos are really good and they will show their value along the way.
We will do well, we are optimistic. Let’s not repeat ourselves. This was just our first official match in five months. At some point we must stop attacking Greek football.
Lately, in Europe, many bad things have been said about Greek Football. We must all support it and that is very important for the media as well as us all.
Try to imagine all the foreigners who visit Greece and who have read your articles, heard what you have said and all that has happened.”
To the question about how Olympiacos is supporting Greek Football, Mr. Marinakis stressed that:
“We support football by strongly investing, keeping a schedule, having a coach, players and –as I believe- a very serious administration.”
and concluded:
“We have to thank our fans for their exceptional behavior, for not lighting any flares on the tribune. The crowd stood by the team, had exemplary behavior and that’s how they should always be, next to the team.”
